Man robbed victim at knifepoint 'for spare change'

A man who robbed a victim at knifepoint in West Yorkshire "for spare change" has been jailed.

James Dransfield, 36, approached a man while armed with the blade in Bradford Road, Batley, in the early hours of 13 December and demanded cash.

The targeted man fled after handing over a small amount of money, West Yorkshire Police said.

Dransfield, of no fixed address, admitted robbery and possession of a bladed article and was jailed for five years and three months at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday.

PC Caitlin Smith, of Kirklees' district crime team, said: "Reducing knifepoint robbery is a priority and we welcome the conviction and sentencing of Dransfield.

"We hope seeing this man off the streets will reassure the victim and make clear that this sort of offence can carry a significant custodial penalty."
