Wiltshire Police said firearms officers were deployed to the area to ensure it was safe

A man in his 50s has sustained life changing facial injuries after being attacked by a dog.

Wiltshire Police said firearms officers responded to reports of a dog out of control in a property in Exeter Street, Swindon, at about 16:20 BST on Sunday.

The dog's owner, a 24-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of being the owner/person in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury, police said. She has since been released on bail.

The force said the dog had been sedated at the scene and is currently being housed in kennels while an investigation is carried out.

They added: "There is not thought to be a further threat to the public".
