A Dorset firefighter has completed a fundraising challenge to run 5km (3.1 miles) every hour for 24 hours in his firefighting kit to raise money for charity.

On-call firefighter at Wareham Fire Station, Brandon Fox, started the challenge on Saturday at 06:00 BST.

The 25-year-old bricklayer, ran 120km (74.6 miles) during 24 loops to and from the fire station, with other firefighters and members of the public joining him on some of the runs to keep him going.

He has raised more than £4,400 so far for the Fire Fighters Charity, passing his initial target of £2,400.

Mr Fox said he decided to take on the challenge to support the charity because he wanted "to make sure their amazing work can continue long into the future".

He said he was inspired by hearing stories about how firefighters were helped by them.

"I just wanted to give back to them," he said.

The challenge saw him complete each loop run along a number of different routes in about 35 minutes, allowing a short break to recover and hydrate before setting off again.
