Finishing touches put to town's new bus station

The finishing touches are being made to a Derbyshire town's new look bus station.

Work has been going on at Matlock's Bakewell Road bus station and taxi rank since January 2024.

The final improvement works "to create a comfortable waiting area for bus and taxi passengers" include a deep clean and the installation of larger windows, decorations, twice as much seating, energy efficient lighting, and real-time bus information screens.

It follows work outside to create space to allow more than one bus to pull up, as well as install a new higher kerb to make alighting easier.

Changes were made to the bus station exit onto Bakewell Road.

Outside areas have also had new paving and surfaces, seating, lighting, cycle parking, landscaping and planters put in.

CCTV has also been installed as part of the project by Derbyshire Dales District and Derbyshire County councils, part funded by central government.

Derbyshire Dales leader Steve Flitter said the work at the bus station is "first class".
