Man admits causing death of wife in A16 crash

A Bulgarian man has admitted causing the death of his wife and injuring five other people following a crash near Boston.
Sofka Mitkova, 39, died after a Vauxhall Zafira - driven by her husband Asen Kurtev - was involved in a collision with two other cars on the A16 between Kirton and Sutterton roundabout on the morning of 4 March.
Kurtev, 46, of Carlton Road, Boston, had initially denied causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. However, he pleaded guilty to all five charges when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court earlier.
He is due to be sentenced at the same court on Thursday.
Kurtev, who followed the hearing via a Bulgarian interpreter, had previously denied all the charges when he appeared at the same court on 20 February.
Granting him bail, Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight told him: "You have pleaded guilty to five serious offences for which I will sentence you on Thursday.
"I will grant you bail but I have no reason to think this will be anything other than a long custodial sentence."
Kurtev was also made the subject of an interim driving disqualification.
