Family grieves 'profound loss' after man shot dead

The family of a 27-year-old man who was shot dead in north London said they were "grieving the profound loss of a son, a brother, a father and a friend".

Mahad Abdi Mohamed was found with a gunshot wound to the head when police and the London Ambulance Service responded to reports of a shooting on Waverley Road, Tottenham, at about 20:45 GMT on Thursday.

Another man, aged 26, had surgery for a gunshot wound to his leg and is in a stable condition in hospital, said the Met Police.

The force said a murder investigation was under way. No arrests had yet been made and detectives were appealing for information.

In a statement, Mr Mohamed's family added: "We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time. We are grateful for your understanding and support."

Det Ch Ins Rebecca Woodsford, of the Met's specialist crime north team, said: "Two men were shot on a residential street on Thursday, with one man sadly losing his life. My thoughts are with the victim's family and friends at this time.

"We recognise the impact this will have on the local community. My team are working diligently to gather evidence and establish what led to this tragedy.

"I would ask any local residents with concerns to speak to officers at the scene, or to their local neighbourhood policing teams."

She asked anyone who was in the area after 20:00 on Thursday to tell police if they saw or heard anything suspicious.

"Your knowledge is critical to this investigation, and it may help us locate the suspects. Please do the right thing and come forward, you will be supported," she added.
