Dangerous junction in city needs 'major overhaul'

A city junction that has no traffic lights has been flagged as a crash hotspot.
The junction of Luckwell Road and Winterstoke Road in Bedminster, South Bristol, is often used as a shortcut but right turns there can be hazardous.
A consultation is under way as part of the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood scheme with one resident describing the junction as "an absolute nightmare and very unsafe".
Councillor Ed Plowden, chair of the transport policy committee, said: "There's definitely an intention to do something about that."
'Visibility awful'
Another respondent to the consultation said: "Visibility when pulling out of the side roads is awful and pulling across into them is dangerous too, as the traffic continues to move quickly.
"As a pedestrian trying to cross Luckwell Road, you have to walk some way down to do it safely, as cars come off Winterstoke Road too quickly and can't be seen."
Councillor Emily Clarke said that the junction needed "a pretty major overhaul".
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, changes will be explored as part of the South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood project, with work likely to begin in 2026.
