A motorcycle and a car collided on the A6 near Market Harborough, police said

A man has been arrested after a motorcyclist died in a crash on the A6 in south Leicestershire.

Emergency services were called to a collision on the road through Market Harborough involving a grey Volkswagen Passat car and a yellow and black Yamaha motorbike at about 14:40 BST on Saturday.

The biker, a man in his 40s, died at the scene of the crash, between Harborough Road roundabout and Langton Road, said Leicestershire Police.

A 46-year-old man, from Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on police bail while inquiries continue to be carried out, said police.

Det Con Anna Andrew, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said officers were working to "piece together" the movements of both vehicles before the crash and asked for witnesses to come forward.

She said: "We are aware there were motorists at the scene who left prior to police arrival who may have key information to provide. This included a white-coloured van."
