Embankment fire near railway line disrupts trains

The disruption between Coventry and Birmingham International lasted until just before 20:30 BST

Train passengers across the country suffered disruption after a fire broke out on an embankment near a railway line.

West Midlands Fire Service was called to Duggins Lane near Tile Hill station in Coventry at about 12:30 BST.

On arrival crews found a blaze on the embankment near to Beechwood Tunnel.

Lines that were closed between Coventry and Birmingham International have since reopened, but disruption lasted until just before 20:30 BST.

The routes that were affected by the incident included:

  • Avanti West Coast services between Edinburgh, Glasgow Central, Blackpool North, Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • Chiltern Railways between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone
  • CrossCountry services between Manchester Piccadilly and Bournemouth
  • London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • West Midlands Railway between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa
