Three teenagers arrested over boatyard fire

Two teenage girls and a teenage boy have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire engulfed five boats at a boatyard.

The blaze broke out in Tipner, Portsmouth, on Tuesday at about 16:00 BST causing smoke to billow into the sky.

Along with the boats, a storage container at the yard was also wrecked in the fire.

The two girls, aged 13 and 15, have since been bailed. The boy, 13, who was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, was bailed.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said all three teenagers were from Portsmouth.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the incident generated more than 40 calls into its control room via 999.

Crews tackling the blaze, just off the M275, put the fire out by about 21:00.
