Firefighters have tackled a large fire which engulfed about 200 hay bales at a farm in North Yorkshire.

The county's fire and rescue said it was alerted to the blaze at Whitby just after 19:00 GMT on Sunday, a spokesperson said.

The hay was believed to have caught fire in the barn, which was "well alight" according to the spokesperson. The building measures 25m x 10m.

Six fire crews fought the flames at the fire's peak along with three further supporting appliances. Two of the crews were still in attendance at the scene on Monday morning.
