Crackdown order on anti-social behaviour extended

A crackdown on anti-social behaviour, including by rogue cyclists, has been extended by a council.

An order aimed at protecting public spaces from disturbances has been extended by three years by Basildon Council.

The order was first put in place on 1 April 2022 and was due to expire at midnight on 31 March this year.

It was imposed to tackle issues associated with alcohol and substance use and use of motor vehicles and bicycles.

Melissa McGeorge, cabinet member for community safety and enforcement, said: "Making our communities safer is a priority for the council. We have listened to the concerns of local people, businesses and other stakeholders and we are doing what they asked for.

"We are committed to ensuring our town centres, parks, and open spaces are safe and that the necessary powers are in place to deal with any persistent anti-social behaviour.

The extension will come into force on 1 April 2025 and will end on 31 March 2028.
