Bexhill's 'People's Pavilion' reveals revamp plans

A landmark building on Bexhill seafront has revealed ambitious refurbishment plans.
The De La Warr Pavilion, which is also known as the "People's Pavilion", says the revamp will preserve the fabric of the Grade I-listed building and improve access.
The proposed plans include refurbishing the auditorium, and creating a new studio for learning, community and hiring events.
Stewart Drew, director of the De La Warr, said he was "excited" about the transformation plans.
"We aim to remodel some of the Pavilion's space to give better support for the community," he said.
"These include hosting local school productions, musicians and artists from Bexhill and outside of the town."
Mr Drew said the Pavilion has been both a community centre and international attraction since it was built in 1935.
"It's important that we maintain this reputation of the Pavilion so both the local community and visitors can continue to enjoy the space," he added.
The funding for the project is from the Levelling Up Fund. Rother District Council received a grant in 2023.
The government allocated nearly £20m to transform the Pavilion and develop new community facilities in Sidley.
A public consultation was held earlier this month for residents to submit ideas on how to use the Levelling Up Fund to transform the Pavilion.
Mr Drew said: "We have had lots of feedback from residents and we are still going through them.
"We plan to submit a planning application to Rother District Council in May and we hope to get a decision this autumn."
