A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a major fire at an industrial estate.

Ieuan Jones, 26, from Bryntirion, Bridgend, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

The blaze, which broke out on the Kingsway at Bridgend Industrial Estate in January 2024, caused a warehouse owned by Owens Group to collapse within minutes.

Jones was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 19 May.

At the time of the fire all staff safely evacuated the warehouse with no injuries reported, and the company apologised to nearby businesses affected.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the building which measured 245m x 110m (800ft x 360ft), and the roof partially collapsed.
