Stretch of M4 closes for bridge demolition

The M4 will be closed between junction 18 and 19 in both directions this weekend as a bridge is demolished.
The closure is expected to last from 19:00 GMT on Friday 21 March to 06:00 GMT on Monday 24 March.
The A432 Badminton Road bridge in South Gloucestershire, which crosses above the M4, has been closed since inspectors found cracks in July 2023.
Sean Walsh of National Highways told drivers to avoid the area around the M4 near Bristol. "If that's not possible, allow yourself plenty of extra time to complete your journey via our signed diversion routes and expect delays," he said.

As part of the exclusion zone, the Cuckoo Lane junction on the A432 Badminton Road will be closed to traffic, pedestrians and cyclists over the weekend.
This closure will start on Thursday 20 March and end on Monday 24 March.
Diversions will be in place for drivers as well as for cyclists and pedestrians.
National Highways will begin building a replacement bridge later in the year. This will require another M4 closure.
