A 20-month-old boy has been left with life-threatening injuries after being involved in a three-vehicle crash near a roundabout.

Lincolnshire Police said the collision involved a white Audi, a silver Kia Ceed, and a black Volkswagen Passat, near Sleaford on the A17 at about 16:45 GMT on Wednesday.

The toddler was treated at the scene and then airlifted to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition, while other people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.

A 31-year-old man who was driving the VW Passat has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

The road remained closed until 02:30 on Thursday.

Police have asked anyone with any information to get in touch, particularly if they were travelling along the A17 close to the Holdingham roundabout between 16:15 and 16:45 on Wednesday.

Anyone who saw a dark coloured VW Passat travelling eastbound on the A17 from the Newark area, heading in the direction of Sleaford, is also asked to get in touch.
