Second person dies after A19 crash

A second woman has died after a crash between a car and a lorry.

The blue Vauxhall Mokka and a white goods vehicle crashed at about 11:30 GMT on 24 March on the A19 northbound, near to the Nissan factory in Sunderland.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 70s, died at the scene.

A woman in her 40s who was travelling with her was taken to hospital and later discharged, but died on Saturday, Northumbria Police said.

The force said the next of kin of both women were being supported by specially-trained officers.

The driver of the lorry remained at the scene after the crash to assist police and the investigation continues.
