Police have arrested a 52-year-old after a woman of 58 died at the Lord Nelson hotel

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a woman at a hotel.

Officers were called to a report a woman, 58, had been found unconscious in the Lord Nelson hotel in Hotham Street in Liverpool city centre at about 13:40 GMT on Friday.

Emergency services attended and she pronounced dead at the scene.

Merseyside Police said a 52-year-old man was being questioned by detectives, and urged anyone with information to contact the force.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and the cause of her death, the force added.

Det Supt Paul Grounds said on Saturday: "These are still the early stages of our investigation and our work will continue at pace at the location and elsewhere, as we look to piece together what happened.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim's family, who will be supported by specialist officers, and to everyone affected by the events of yesterday."
