On 1 May voters in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will decide the next Combined Authority Mayor. You can find more information about the election and the other candidates here.
Former MP
Conservative candidate Paul Bristow is a former MP for Peterborough. He represented the constituency between 2019 and 2024. Prior to becoming an MP, he ran his own firm in the healthcare industry.
Transport
His campaign website says he wants to see an end to "anti-car" schemes and is opposed to road pricing. He says he would fast-track proposals to dual or upgrade the A10, A141 and A47.
In addition, he says he would scrap plans for two busways: the first between Cambourne and Cambridge (known as C2C), and the other, known as CSET, between Babraham and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
He wants to see a "light rail" solution around Cambridge.
Solar farm opposition
He is opposed to the East Park Solar Farm, which is planned for farmland on the Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire border.
He says 74% of it is on high quality agriculture land and would industrialise the countryside. He wants to see more investment in rooftop solar panels instead.
Freeze the mayor's portion of council tax
He says he would not increase the mayoral precept that is currently applied to council tax bills.
Water solutions
He says he would "push" to get the Fens Reservoir built, which he says will ensure "water security for homes, businesses, and farms".
Peterborough Community Stadium
He would like to "lead the way" for a new community stadium in Peterborough, which would be a home for Peterborough United. He says it could also contain a swimming pool and become a concert venue.
