Guernsey's government is looking for five new members for the island's medical ethics panel.

Health and Social Care (HSC) said it was looking for two lay members, as well as a GP and two healthcare professionals to join the Guernsey Ethics Committee.

The committee provides ethical opinion on research proposals before they are carried out.

Committee chairwoman Dr Tracey McClean said it had "a key role to play in ensuring that any research study involving the local community is safe and robust".

'Passionate about research'

She said: "I have been a member of the Ethics Committee for many years and still consider it to be the most interesting and positive meeting that I attend."

Non-medically qualified committee members should be "passionate about research and clinical ethics", HSC said.

Dr McClean said members would receive training and have "the opportunity to develop their knowledge of research and clinical ethics" and "contribute to the development of high-quality research in Guernsey".

The committee, which also provides feedback on organisational policies, meets every other month for two hours.
