A woman in her 30s is in a critical condition in hospital following the incident on Phythian Close, Kensington, police said

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was seriously injured in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police said officers were called out to Phythian Close in Kensington on Friday after reports of an assault on a woman in her 30s.

The woman sustained injuries to her chest and face and remains in a critical condition in hospital following the incident, which happened on the street at about 20:25 BST.

Olamuyiwa Otti, 48, of Phythian Close, Kensington, has been charged with attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has been remanded in custody.

He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
