The Barreau Art Scholarship Centenary Exhibition is being held at Jersey Arts Centre

A new exhibition is set to celebrate the centenary of a Jersey art scholarship and its philanthropic beginnings.

The Société Jersiaise said the Barreau Art Scholarship Centenary Exhibition is due to open at Jersey Arts Centre's Berni Gallery on Monday and run until 3 May.

The fund dates back to 1924 when Miss A E Barreau provided money to establish and endow an art gallery at the Société Jersiaise Museum.

It said it had identified 139 scholars and made contact with 92 for the exhibition.

The group said it would explore "this fascinating local story" and how the scholars "have gone on to make an impact in Jersey and beyond our shores".

"It is proving to be an insight into 100 years of individuality and impact," it added.
