A driver has been airlifted to hospital following a head-on crash in North Yorkshire, police have said.

Crews were called at 12:30 BST on Sunday to reports of a collision involving a Peugeot and a Lexus on the A661, between the village of Spofforth and the Kestral roundabout, near Harrogate.

The Lexus had "ended up down an embankment", according to North Yorkshire Police.

The female driver of the Peugeot was flown to hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, also female, and the male Lexus driver were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The road was closed to traffic, but has since reopened.

Anyone with information, including dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.
