Couple's garden features on BBC television show

A couple's rainforest-inspired garden has been featured on an episode of BBC Two's Gardener's World.

Joe Pemberton and Linda Aradi transformed the garden at their home in Delapre, in Northampton, into what they described as an "unwinding space" - complete with banana trees, eucalyptus, bamboo and water features.

Inspired by their travels in Colombia, the garden stands in stark contrast to what the couple say was "a dumping ground" when they first moved in.

"[It] was a really amazing experience," said Mr Pemberton.

"It was a bucket list for me - to open the garden to the public and get it on Gardener's World, so that's a massive achievement."

Mr Pemberton, who builds ponds professionally, said the filming process was both "incredible" and "nerve-wracking".

Ms Aradi added: "I did attend a course at Moulton College to formally educate myself.

"Some of the plants are rescued – we see a sad-looking plant that is reduced, buy it, and try to revive it. A lot of the water lilies are now thriving."

She also explained that many of their choices were practical. "We try and pick plants you can find in most garden centres as they're easier to get hold of and are cheaper," she said.

The couple opened the space up through the National Garden Scheme last year.

Ms Aradi said: "It was surprising for some of our neighbours. But that is kind of the idea - that it's a hidden paradise, where we can sit and relax.

"You can hear the water but not the traffic, so it makes you feel like you're in a different place."

Presenter Adam Frost described their creation as "some garden".
