'Iconic' nightclub Cameo announces shock closure

An East Sussex nightclub has announced it is to shut its doors for the last time this weekend after 40 years in business.
Management at Cameo on Langney Road in Eastbourne posted on social media that Saturday will be revellers' opportunity to have "one last dance" there.
The news comes almost 18 months after its parent company Rekom UK went into administration, leading to the closure of a number of its 30-plus UK venues.
However, the company said at the time that Cameo was among those which would remain open, with staff getting to keep their jobs.
But on Wednesday the team at Cameo wrote on Facebook: "After 40 years Eastbourne's iconic nightclub will be closing its doors for the final time."
They wrote: "Did you meet your partner here? Then come and share your memories with us one last time on Saturday, 28 June."
They added that they would like to thank "all of our staff and guests over the years", hundreds of whom added their own online goodbyes.
'Life-long friends'
"So sad to read this, I had many years of brilliant nights DJing there and made so many memories and friends," said Kevin Sturt.
"I wish I could jump on the decks there one last time with all the old party goers."
Sharon Moore posted: "For 10 years Cameo was a massive part of my life.
"Working on the door four to five nights a week, I met some life-long friends and made some amazing memories."
Debbie Eibbed said that she had even met her future husband there in the early 2000s.
"Sad times to hear it's closing. Let's hope it can be resurrected again for more fun times for all."
Cameo was originally known as Calebs but changed its name to Kings in 2001.
After 11 years on the town's club scene it became known as Cameo in 2012.
Kings then made a one-off return in July 2024 when it held a special party for revellers, offering them the chance to dance down memory lane and relive the night-life of the Noughties.
