A bus driver has been badly injured after crashing into a house during a hit-and-run incident in Leeds.

The bus was in collision with a Luton van before hitting the house on Leadwell Lane in the Rothwell area just before 12:10 BST.

West Yorkshire Police said the van driver failed to stop and left the scene of the crash.

A force spokesperson said: "The driver of the bus has been taken to hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. A number of passengers on the bus are being treated for injuries."

Leadwell Lane is currently closed at the junction of Northfield Avenue and Stainton Lane.

Police said motorists were being advised to avoid the area.
