An election to select the first mayor of Lincolnshire will take place on 1 May

On 1 May, people in Greater Lincolnshire, will head to the polls to elect their first mayor for the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA).

It is a chance for registered voters to decide who will run their combined county for the next four years.

A devolution deal was approved by government in September.

It led to the creation of a Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA), bringing together Lincolnshire County Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and North Lincolnshire Council.

What will the Greater Lincolnshire mayor do?

The mayor will serve as a direct link to Westminster and will have the responsibility to advocate for Lincolnshire, providing strong, visible leadership and ensuring that local priorities are at the heart of decision-making.

As the head of the combined county authority, the mayor will oversee strategic planning, investment, and the delivery of key services, including transport, skills, employment, business growth, and infrastructure.

The mayor will champion Greater Lincolnshire on a national stage, securing funding, driving economic growth, and creating new opportunities for residents and businesses.

Serving for four years, the mayor will be accountable for ensuring that devolution delivers tangible benefits for communities.

How will the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority work?

With an annual budget of £24m, the combined county authority will be governed by a board responsible for overseeing strategic decision-making and ensuring that devolution powers are used effectively.

Alongside this, three specialist boards made up of local leaders, industry experts, and stakeholders will focus on key areas critical to Greater Lincolnshire's growth and prosperity: Transport, Skills & Employment, and Business & Infrastructure.

Lincolnshire County Council, North East Lincolnshire Council and North Lincolnshire Council will continue their work as normal, alongside the GLCCA.

When will voters find out who will be their first Greater Lincolnshire mayor?

The result is expected to be announced at Grimsby Town Hall on 2 May.
