A railway line between Surrey and Berkshire has closed for a week as engineers complete track upgrades.

South Western Railway (SWR) services will not run between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside until Friday.

Network Rail said that on Saturday that there be no SWR services between Hounslow and Virginia Water.

Additional engineering work is also taking place between Hounslow and Ascot/Woking on Sunday.

Throughout the closures on all the lines, buses will operate instead of trains.

During the closure between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside, there will be no services at the following stations: Wraysbury, Sunnymeads, Datchet and Windsor & Eton Riverside.

SWR Services that usually run between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside will instead terminate at Staines.

During the line closure, 800 yards of track will be laid on the Black Potts Railway Bridge, which runs over the River Thames.

Network Rail said this included removing old rails and sleepers from the site and installing new track.

Passengers can use the journey planner on the SWR website to see how their journey will be affected.
