Broadcaster STV has announced the launch of a new "Scotland-focused" commercial radio station.

The mainstream music station will be on digital radio and online and aimed at the 35 to 54-year-old market.

STV said it would be headed by Graham Bryce, Bauer Media's former chief operating officer, and based at the company's Pacific Quay HQ in Glasgow.

The name of the station, launch date and key presenters will be unveiled later this year.

The announcement comes as part of a wider strategic update from STV.

The station will be part of a newly created Audience division, which incorporates the company's TV channel, streaming service STV Player and new audio business.

'Shake things up'

Bryce said there was a "strong appetite" for radio in Scotland and the new station would "shake things up".

He said: "This will be a truly national commercial station for Scotland with presenters, news and content focused on the needs and interests of listeners living in Scotland.

"We believe there is a real gap in the market, and I can't wait to get started and shake things up."

Bryce was previously responsible for the launch of Bauer's Greatest Hits Radio in January 2019.

Local stations including Clyde 2, Forth 2 and Northsound 2 were rebranded under the Greatest Hits Radio banner in April 2023.
