Manor Community Academy put itself into lockdown as a precautionary measure, police confirmed

Two teenagers have been arrested after a teacher was injured in an assault, police said.

Cleveland Police was called to Manor Community College, in Hartlepool, Teesside, at about 11:30 BST following reports a teacher had been attacked.

The school said "unauthorised individuals breached the schools premises" but that no students were harmed or threatened during the incident and all pupils were safe.

Manor Community College put itself on lockdown as a precaution and there was no ongoing threat to pupils or staff within the school, police confirmed.

The force said no weapons were used and no other pupils were injured.

One pupil told the BBC the school's lockdown alarm lasted 40 minutes and said they had seen many people "upset and in distress".

Executive principal for the Northern Education Trust Andrew Murphy commended staff members who took "immediate action to contain the situation".

"Police did attend the academy and remove the intruders," Mr Murphy said.

He said parents had been allowed to take their children home if they wanted to.

Mr Murphy confirmed the school would be open as normal on Friday.
