Residents warned over 'real menace' rogue traders

Doorstep scammers are a "real menace" and residents should be wary, a council has warned.
North East Lincolnshire Council's Trading Standards officers issued tips for dealing with rogue traders following reports of cold callers claiming to be money experts in the region.
Lincolnshire Police said it was also investigating reports of people posing as professional roofers in Lincoln.
Councillor Ron Shepherd said: "Rogue traders and cold callers can be a real menace to our communities. Please do look out for your family members too, particularly older people, who may be targeted."
'Levered up roof tiles'
The council warned that suspected rogue traders might make requests for large upfront payments, decline to provide written quotes and have no physical business address.
They often offer services including gardening, roofing and repairs, using social media to appear legitimate.
Trading Standards urged residents to research companies, opt for traders known by family and friends, and always ask to see ID from contractors.

Lincolnshire Police has issued a photo of a man they want to speak to in connection with an investigation into a suspect who posed as a professional roofer and charged an elderly resident for unnecessary repairs on 13 May.
He climbed the victim's roof and levered up roof tiles, causing damage, then left when challenged by another resident, the force said.
Two people seen driving a white Toyota van on Saxon Way in Lincoln might have information, officers added.
Anyone with doorbell or dashcam footage of the man or the white van should contact the force.
