Two arrested after teen dies in hit-and-run crash

A teenager has died following a suspected hit-and-run incident in Leeds.
The 19-year-old male was left with "very significant" injuries after being hit by a car while crossing the road near Leeds Urban Bike Park on Middleton Ring Road at about 22:10 BST on Friday and he died at the scene, police said.
Two males, aged 15 and 19, were later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and they both remained in custody, according to a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
Det Ch Insp James Entwistle said: "A substantial number of inquiries remain ongoing today into this very serious collision which has tragically resulted in the death of a young male."
Police said the incident was thought to have involved a red Ford Focus, whose driver had turned left from Bodmin Approach onto the ring road before colliding with the victim and driving off.
The car believed to have been involved was later recovered by officers, the force spokesperson said.
Det Ch Insp Entwistle said: "We are actively appealing for information and footage to assist the investigation.
"We would like to speak to anyone who has CCTV, dashcam or phone footage of the collision, or of the car involved, just before it took place."
Road closures remained in place on Saturday as officers continued their investigations, meanwhile officers were supporting the family of the victim, he added.
