The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are treating a fire at a former school site in County Londonderry as deliberate.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said they received a call at 04:52 BST on Saturday to attend the blaze at the former Faughan Valley school in Drumahoe.

The fire has since been extinguished.

Forty-five firefighters were in attendance, with six pumping appliances and one aerial appliance.

The roads are now fully reopened in the area.

Repeatedly targeted

The derelict school building has been repeatedly targeted by arsonists, the Education Authority (EA), who own the site, previously told BBC News NI in 2024 that it could cost about £10,000 to secure the site.

In 2023 the EA deemed it surplus to requirements and started a process to dispose of the site.

Faughan Valley High School amalgamated with Clondermot High School in 2004 to form Lisneal College.
