Train delays ease after Hotspur Press fire hold-ups

Rail services are back to normal after a major fire which engulfed a landmark Manchester city centre building caused disruption for morning commuters.

The Hotspur Press building on Cambridge Street, close to Manchester Oxford Road railway station, was gutted by the blaze on Monday, leading to its partial collapse.

It resulted in the suspension of all rail services through Manchester Oxford Road station overnight and some delays and cancellations until 09:30 BST.

Some roads in the surrounding area were also closed, which was causing some diversions to bus services, the Bee Network bus operator said.

More than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at its height.

National Rail earlier said as the service recovers, trains could still be cancelled or revised.

TransPennine Express had said affected customers could use their tickets on alternative connections at no extra cost if their service was cancelled due to the disruption.

A free bus service was also running between Manchester Piccadilly and the heavily affected Manchester Oxford Road station.
