Men jailed for raping woman in her home

Two men have been jailed for raping a woman in her home.

The victim met Redjon Cenaj at a nightclub in Leicester in October 2023 and he was then joined by Mariglen Ferataj.

CCTV footage showed the woman was not in a fit state and Ferataj picked her up and placed her in a taxi which took them to her flat, where they attacked her.

At Leicester Crown Court on Friday both were sentenced to nine years in prison.

Police said the prompt reporting of the attack meant they could secure crucial evidence.

CCTV showed Cenaj, 22, and Ferataj, 21, were "effectively holding her up".

A statement obtained from the taxi driver also confirmed the victim was not alert to what was happening, officers said.

During his interview Ferataj claimed the sex was consensual while Cenaj denied any sexual activity took place.

Last month at Leicester Crown Court, Cenaj, of HMP Leicester, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration.

Ferataj, of Beaufort Road, Leicester, was found guilty of four counts of rape and two count of sexual assault by penetration.

Det Con Gemma Fox said: "Despite seeing the CCTV footage from that night which showed the victim's demeanour and the fact there was no way she was in a fit state to consent to anything, the suspects continued to suggest it was all consensual.

"The victim has shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and legal proceedings - this was in no way easy for her.

"The incident has left a massive impact on her mental health – it's affected her university studies and life in general.

"We hope this outcome now helps her in her recovery and she can start to rebuild her life again."
