Traffic was building up on the M6 after it was closed between Telford and Stafford

Drivers suffered long delays after police were forced to close the M6 between Telford and Stafford.

The motorway's northbound carriageway was shut, from junctions 12 to 13 at about 07:00 BST, because of a police incident, National Highways (NH) said.

The nature of the incident was unclear, but NH said officers from Staffordshire Police were at the scene along with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Delays of about 45 minutes were reported, along with heavy congestion from junction 11 to junction 12.

NH said the closure was lifted shortly before 09:00 BST after the police incident was "successfully resolved".
