Bella Culley not 'far from childhood', says lawyer

A British teenager held in prison in Georgia on suspicion of drug offences has been described as "not far from childhood" by her new lawyer.
Bella Culley, 18, from Billingham on Teesside, has had the first meeting with her new family-appointed lawyer, Malkhaz Salakaia, who said he had to explain to her where she was geographically.
She is being detained for 55 days before trial while the prosecution investigates where the 12kg (26lbs) of marijuana and 2kg (4.4lbs) of hashish found in a travel bag came from, and whether she was planning on handing it over to someone else.

Naked trainer chases driveway car arsonist
A personal trainer raced naked from his house when an arsonist set fire to three cars on his driveway.
Mike Hind, 41, stayed up to watch television on Tuesday night after his wife and three children went to bed.
A doorbell camera on their Middlesbrough property alerted the gym coach to somebody on his drive around midnight and, after seeing an orange flash, he looked out to see three cars on fire before screaming to his family to "get out".

The inside story of a council held to ransom in cyber-attack

In February 2020, an IT engineer raced into work through the dark, wintery streets of Redcar.
The dash was prompted by a worrying alert about the council's computer network, and he was soon hurriedly shutting down servers to try to halt the spread of a virus. It was too late.
Hackers had scrambled Redcar and Cleveland Council's IT systems and would soon demand payment to restore it.

Bare-knuckle boxing: From car park scraps to championship titles
From illegal street fights to settling arguments with violence, and boxing with and without gloves, Billingham's Gary Fox has been fighting for most of his life.
Victories on the street used to lead to weeks of drink and drugs, often spiralling into violent situations. But he broke that cycle in 2019 after a spell in prison for driving offences.
He decided to turn his life around and, in March, became Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship's (BKFC) UK featherweight title holder, beating Jonno Chipchase by technical knock out.

Crows 'attack' residents trying to save baby bird

A community has described how they were "viciously attacked" by two crows while trying save a baby bird that had fallen from its nest.
People living around Rievaulx Avenue in Billingham, Teesside, first spotted the chick on Tuesday morning and began to put out food, with children also laying jumpers to keep it warm.
One of those who helped said "anybody walking past the nest" was running the risk of being chased by the adults, as they tried to defend the young bird.
