A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire in a block of flats.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the blaze in a flat in Lake Shore Drive, Hartcliffe, just after 13:00 GMT on Sunday after a 999 call.

Avon and Somerset Police said the fire caused "extensive damage" to one flat, with one person taken to hospital with minor injuries related to smoke inhalation.

The force added a 47-year-old man had been arrested as part of the investigation and had since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police has been asked to get in touch as officers continue to take statements from witnesses and review CCTV.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed that crews from Temple, Hicks Gate, Kingswood, Chew Magna, Pill, Bedminster, Nailsea and Yate fire stations were called to reports of a fire at the seven-storey block.

The fire was located on the top floor, with firefighters - six of whom had to wear breathing apparatus - using jets both inside and from a ladder to control the spread of the blaze.
