A football club in Cumbria has said it is investigating allegations of racist abuse at an away game.

Workington AFC released a statement following its 1-0 away defeat to Leek in the Northern Premier League Premier Division game.

The club said it had received the names of two people in connection with the incident and it was "strongly encouraging" those individuals to come forward.

It added: "We will be working closely as a club to ensure appropriate action is taken."

The statement added: "Let us be absolutely clear, there is no place for racism in football, at our club, or in our community."

The club was treating the matter with the "utmost seriousness" and was "committed to identifying those responsible", a spokesman added.
