A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 40-year-old woman.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said officers were called to Sherwood Avenue, in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, at about 06:30 BST on Friday following a report of a woman being injured.

Paramedics tried to save the life of Rachael Vaughan, 40, from Abingdon, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, TVP said. Her next of kin are being supported by trained officers.

Robert Richens, 34, from Oxford, has been charged with murder and will appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Monday.

TVP said: "The thoughts of everyone at Thames Valley Police are with Rachael Vaughan's family and friends."
