Teenager in court over Edinburgh beach 'stabbing'

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with attempted murder in connection with an alleged stabbing at an Edinburgh beach.
Armed police and paramedics were called to Portobello Beach at 19:40 on Friday following reports of a large-scale disturbance on Portobello promenade.
A 17-year-old boy was found injured and taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
The 16-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder.
Granted bail
He made no plea and was granted bail. His next appearance is yet to be confirmed.
At the time of the incident, officers also charged a 14-year-old boy in connection with possession of a weapon.
He was due to be reported to the relevant authorities.
