An 18-year-old man who chased a vehicle with a machete in a residential street has been jailed.

Dante Shakespeare was among a small group who became involved in an argument with a van driver in Bulwell, Nottingham, at about 13:30 GMT on 24 March, police said.

The driver pursued the group in the van before Shakespeare was seen on CCTV footage from Muriel Street producing the machete and running after the vehicle.

He pleaded guilty to affray and possession of a knife in a public place and was jailed for 10 months at Nottingham Crown Court.

Nottinghamshire Police said an officer had been able to identify the teenager, of Mount Pleasant, Nottingham, following a trawl of CCTV in the area.

Det Con Kacper Roman said: "Shakespeare's decision to arm himself with a machete and brandish it in the street was extremely reckless.

"Much of this incident took place on a residential street and it must have been alarming for any witnesses to see.

"Thankfully, no-one was hurt and an officer was quickly able to identify Shakespeare."

Officers said the confrontation was still under investigation and appealed for witnesses.
