Man charged with attempted murder after axe attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was attacked with an axe during a break-in.

Stuart Whittaker, of no fixed address, was accused after the incident at a house on Dale Crescent in Congleton, Cheshire, on Monday afternoon.

Cheshire Police said a man broke into the address and threatened a woman and man before the latter was assaulted with the weapon.

Whittaker, 48, is also accused of burglary, attempted section 18 assault, breach of a restraining order and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was due to appear at Warrington Combined Court on Wednesday.
