TfL wants to create a new restaurant in a disused part of Brixton Tube station

An "attractive new restaurant" is being proposed by Transport for London for the disused back of Brixton Underground station.

The transport authority's property arm, Places for London, has submitted plans for the new venue to Lambeth Council.

The disused area of the station that backs on to Electric Lane was previously used by Tube workers as a recreation space.

Places for London said the risk of the new venue attracting antisocial behaviour would be minimised by not offering takeaways.

According to planning documents submitted to the council seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, "the proposal for a change of the rear part of Brixton Underground station would create an attractive new restaurant in the centre of Brixton".

Places for London said the new venue would not have a negative impact on the amenity of neighbouring properties.

It added that the restaurant's proposed opening hours would be 10:00 to 23:00 Sunday to Thursday and then close at midnight on weekends.

The planning documents state: "The enhanced frontage would improve the appearance of a building which is currently identified to make a negative contribution to the character and appearance of the Brixton conservation area."

The existing shutters would be replaced with new entrance doors along with ventilation for the proposed restaurant.

Lambeth Council will make a decision on the application at a later date.
