Police appealed for witnesses after the driver of the car allegedly left the scene

A nine-year-old girl was struck by a car as she crossed a road, police have said.

Kent Police were called to the scene on Oak Tree Avenue at the junction with Mangravet Avenue in Maidstone at about 21:00 BST on Monday, 23 June.

Police appealed for witnesses and said the driver of a black hatchback car was believed to have initially stopped before leaving in the direction of Grove Road.

The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance and is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.

Anyone with information or dashcam or doorbell footage of the incident has been asked to contact police.

The vehicle was described as a black hatchback, possibly a Peugeot or Vauxhall, and might have a registration plate starting LY08, the force added.
