A charity has launched a £5m appeal to create a new cancer treatment centre.

Lingen Davies Cancer Support said the facility in Telford would "double the capacity of chemotherapy provision" in the area.

It said it would offer up to 30 chemotherapy bays, outpatient clinics, a specialist urology investigations unit, and a lung diagnostic centre.

The charity said the Sunflower Appeal was its biggest appeal to date.

The cancer services are due to be available in Telford by 2029 and are designed to allow people in the area "to access care and services closer to home", the charity added.

Naomi Atkin, the charity's CEO, said: "More people will be able to access chemotherapy treatment when they need it, reducing waiting times and associated stress and worry, and helping contribute to improved outcomes."

She said a number of fundraising events had been planned to get the four-year appeal started.
