Path 'shakes mobility scooter user to pieces'

Bumpy footpath causes issues for residents

A mobility scooter user says he is "shaken to pieces" every time he travels along an uneven footpath in his local park.

Graham Rigby said his whole body shakes when he travels along the path in Tuffley's Holmleigh Park, Gloucester, to get to the shops.

The 64-year-old, who suffers from breathing issues and problems with his hip, said the bumpy footpath causes "painful" journeys and made "three punctures" in his previous scooter's tyres.

Gloucestershire County Council has been approached for comment.

Mr Rigby said when he called the council about the issue, he was told they did not have capacity to look into it, which he described as "extremely frustrating".

"The bumps would literally knock the air out of the tyres," he said of his experience.

"The call out fee for repair was £70 alone, so, I have had to change to a new scooter with suspension and it still shakes me to pieces."

He is also worried the bumpy surface will lead to a collision, and said the path should be resurfaced.

"That would be a real dream, and it would make life less painful," he said.

"It isn't just a scooter problem, there are lots of elderly folks who have to walk with sticks, it won't be long before either a serious fall happen."
