Man charged after pedestrians hit by car

A man has been charged after five pedestrians were hit by a car in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said they were called to De Montfort Street in the early hours of Saturday, where four men and a woman were injured.

The force said Gurwinder Singh, of Gwendolen Road in Leicester, had been charged with four counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 28-year-old is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Two other men from Leicester who were arrested - a 31-year-old held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and a 34-year-old detained on suspicion of affray - have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for the force - which has updated the number of people struck from the previously stated total of four - said two of the pedestrians were in a stable condition in hospital while receiving treatment for "serious injuries".
