Two fishermen who caught and kept undersized spider crabs have been fined £1,500 each by Jersey's Magistrate's Court.

Guillaume Levee and Jonathan Dramard, from France, pleaded guilty on Monday to retaining spider crabs below the minimum size limit.

Marine Resources said it took the "protection of juvenile fish and shellfish seriously".

Minimum size limits existed so "species can have the opportunity to reproduce", which underpinned "the sustainability of our fish stocks", it said.
