A man driving a red Mini Cooper has died in a crash on the A303

The driver of a car has died in a crash with a lorry on a major road.

Officers were called to the collision on the westbound carriageway of the A303 near Thruxton, Hampshire, at about 09:25 GMT.

The road was closed in both directions and the driver of a red Mini Cooper - a man in his 40s from Kingsdon, Somerset - died at the scene.

Police have appealed for witnesses to get in touch, adding that the road had since fully reopened.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said the incident happened between the Quarley turn-off for Thruxton and Shipton Bellinger.

Crews from Andover and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were alerted to the two-vehicle collision near Cholderton at about 10:00 GMT.

Firefighters made the scene safe before leaving the incident with ambulance crews and police.
